Covered Or Denied: The Hottest Gameshow in Insurance!

The game is real, and so are the claims

This episode turns the microphone into a game show buzzer. Jessica plays eight rounds of "Covered or Denied" with her listeners, and every scenario is pulled from the kind of claims that cross a commercial desk in real life: a Texas windstorm that peels half a roof off, an apartment fire where only one of three buildings actually had the sprinklers the policy promised, a restaurant losing three weeks of business to a neighbor's smoke.

The scores are humbling on purpose. The windstorm is covered, but a coinsurance penalty means the owner still writes a painful check, because insuring a four million dollar building for two million tells the carrier you want to share the loss. The sprinkler case dies on a single word, warranty: a promise about the property that turned out to be untrue. And the smoked-out restaurant learns that business income coverage needs a trigger, direct physical damage or an actual civil authority order. Stress, as Jessica puts it, is not a trigger.

Where coverage truly lives

Round by round the episode builds one argument: insurance disasters do not begin at claim time. They begin at renewal, in the moment somebody says "just make it cheaper" or "it's basically the same policy." Coinsurance, warranties, exclusions, subrogation, ordinance and law coverage: these are not buzzwords. They decide whether a check arrives or a denial letter does.

Play along in the car and count your score. Zero to two right means this episode was made for you. Six or more means you either work in insurance or you have a very good broker. Either way, you will come out knowing what you actually bought before you ever need to use it.
